Ready for the next challenge

More than 22 years ago, I walked into the newsroom of a 60,000 daily as a sports clerk, anxious to learn. Since then, I have honed my skills as a writer, designer, editor and manager. I've been low man on the totem pole all the way up to second fiddle. Regardless of the position, I put all my skills to use in working daily to ensure the readers I have been commissioned to serve and the coworkers I have been asked to lead receive a quality, informative friendly news product.

For more than a decade, I have been a lead supervising editor. Much of that time has been spent supervising the nightly production, ensuring the presses run on time and the product is clean and effective, including the last five years as assistant managing editor at The Facts in Clute, Texas. My responsibilities here have been varied, including designer, city editor, copy editor, golf columnist and opinion writer. It also included a full redesign launched in May 2003, which I supervised. It was the third redesign of my career.

On these pages, I have posted work samples which I believe will give you some idea of my design philosophy and ability, and column and editorial writing abilities. As I am still in the process of updating this site, I have not posted much of my design work from The Facts, but plan to do so soon.

Thank you for visiting this site. I am proud of the work I have done over the last 22 years, and look forward to building upon those accomplishments as a teacher and leader when that opportunity presents itself.
